Smiling is my favorite!

Here’s a short one for once friends – and hopefully pretty lighthearted in a heavy year.

So at home all the time, we get to see each others’ smiles (and all the other expressions, too). But the more I’ve been out and seeing so many different people at the COVID Testing Events I’ve been coordinating, I don’t see a single expression below the eyes. And it sparked an idea for me that I have tried to make a habit, a daily practice…

So what did I start doing? I started smiling…at myself! In the mornings as I awaken and stand in front of the mirror with razor in hand…I smile. I smile so big my eye creases tell me I mean it. And since I’m looking in the mirror, I see someone smiling…really smiling at me! It may sound ridiculous, but seriously, mental health and emotional health don’t just wait on hold no matter what 2020 throws our way. Smiling releases endorphins – happy chemicals in our brains. And seeing the smiles of others directed at us do much the same thing.

Smiling benefits our mental and emotional health and that of others. We can’t lose this important social grace, this gift to ourselves and others. Smile at yourself for you! And smile at others whenever you get the chance! 2020: the COVID pandemic, wildfires and don’t forget the murder hornets have to end sometime! Smiles and Blessings to each of you,

Drew
