From RMNP, we headed to Garden of the gods, CO. The Visitor Center is an excellent place for a picture with the entire expansive vista prior to entering the area (see picture). The contrast of the red & white rock, green floor, and blue sky was spectacular. The formations resemble giant termite hills and the Siamese Twin towers are stunning especially as they create the frame around the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains (see picture including how it frames our children). At Garden of the gods, you view striations not only in the formations but even in the dirt (see picture). The drive is a doozy south of Colorado Springs in high plains (7,500 feet) and high winds on Route 25 to Route 160. As you pass along the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range though, the landscape is beautiful. Onward we drove to pitch our tent at Journey KOA Campground in Alamosa, CO at nightfall.
